  • What is the difference between a permutation and a combination?

A permutation is an arrangement of objects in a specific order, while a combination is a selection of objects without regard to the order. For example, the permutations of the letters A, B, and C are ABC, ACB, BAC, etc., while the combinations are ABC, AB, AC, BC, etc.

  • Explain the concept of a quadratic equation and provide an example.

A quadratic equation is a polynomial equation of the form ax^2 + bx + c = 0, where a, b, and c are constants and a ≠ 0. For example, 2x^2 + 3x – 5 = 0 is a quadratic equation.

  • Can you explain the concept of probability and provide an example of how you would teach it to middle school students?

Probability is all about the chances of something happening. For instance, if you toss a coin, the probability of getting heads is 1/2 because there is 1 way to get heads out of 2 possible outcomes (heads or tails). To teach this to my students, I would organize activities like flipping coins or throwing a dice to show how probability works in a hands-on and engaging manner.

  • How can you help students who are weak in understanding variables in algebra?

First, I would teach about variables by giving examples from everyday life. For instance, I would explain how we can use a letter like ‘x’ to stand for something we don’t know yet. Then, I would introduce simple equations and slowly make them more challenging as we go along. To help students feel more at ease, I would give them lots of practice questions and be there to help anyone who needs extra support.

  • What is geometry and how can you make it interesting for students?

Geometry is the study of different shapes, sizes, and characteristics of objects. To make it easy and interesting for students, I would use visual aids like geometric shapes and models. I will give them real-life examples also e.g. observing the shape of different objects around us. I would also include  practical activities such as creating shapes with clay or measuring angles in class to make the concept more clear.

  • How would you teach fractions and decimals in your classroom?

First I will explain the basic concepts of fractions and decimals using visual aids like fraction bars and decimal grids. I will also present the real life examples such as pizza and cake to make the concept of fraction more clear. Practical activities will be done using measuring cups for fractions and using money for decimals. In the end, I will provide many practice exercises to help the students to work on their skills.

  • How would you introduce the concept of percentage in your class with real lie examples and hands-on experience?

I would start by explaining that percentages are a way to express a part of a whole as a fraction of 100. I would then use real-life examples such as discounts in stores or calculating grades to show how percentages are used in everyday life. I will also give students many practice problems and motivate them to think logically and practically.

  • How will you teach trigonometry to class IX students especially who are weak in Maths?

I will introduce the basic concept of trigonometry using visual aids such as right-angled triangles and trigonometric ratios. Then I will present some real life examples of this concept so that students understand the practical usage and value of trigonometry like figuring out how tall a building is or how far away an object is. Then, I would give them enough practice questions to work on their skills.

  • Explain the Pythagorean theorem. How would you teach it to students?

The Pythagorean theorem explains that in a right-angled triangle, the square of the hypotenuse’s length is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides. This can be written as a^2 + b^2 = c^2, where c is the length of the hypotenuse, and a and b are the lengths of the other two sides.

  • ​Explain the concept of matrices and their applications in mathematics.

A matrix is a rectangular array of numbers arranged in rows and columns. Matrices are like grids of numbers that help us solve problems involving straight-line changes and equations. They’re used in math and science to understand and solve problems.
